#Inclusion Works - National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) - 2016
Observed each October, NDEAM celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities and educates about the value of a diverse workforce inclusive of their skills and talents. The NDEAM theme for 2016 is #Inclusion Works.
This October represents more than 70 years of celebrating the contributions and talents of individuals with disabilities. The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) makes available a variety of resources and materials for state and local communities, businesses, and public and private entities to use in highlighting this important event. These include an official poster, sample articles, press releases, historical information, and other tools to promote NDEAM and the employment of individuals with disabilities.
The theme for 2016 - #Inclusion Works - is designed to promote a discussion and dialogue through social media and networking around the hiring and promotion of individuals with disabilities While people with disabilities represent approximately 20% of the working age population, almost 20% are not in the labor force compared to almost 70% of those without disabilities.
