Researchers often document that individuals with a disability versus those without a disability are more likely to have a substance abuse problem and less likely to get effective treatment. ETA has announced the availability of up to $21 million for demonstration grant projects for Program Year 2017. These grants will enable eligible applicants to serve or retrain workers in communities impacted by the health and economic effects of widespread opioid use, addiction, and overdose.

ETA recognizes the lifetime achievements Stephen Hawking has made to the field of science. Despite his significant disability, Dr. Hawking led a breakthrough in our generation's understanding of cosmos in the universe. His resilience inspired us all. As he insightfully said, "My advice to other disabled people would be, concentrate on things your disability doesn't prevent you doing well, and don't regret the things it interferes with. Don't be disabled in spirit, as well as physically."

In celebration of African American History Month, ETA honors the contributions of African American leaders with disabilities who broke down barriers. We all have a role to make a difference for the greater good. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King once stated, “It really boils down to this: that all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
