The America Saves Week campaign is happening between 2/25 through 3/2 to help get Americans to understand why it is critical for their financial success to make savings a priority. To support this effort, ETA is highlighting one way people with disabilities can invest for their current or future financial needs is through ABLE accounts, which are tax-advantaged savings accounts for individuals with disabilities and their families. ETA is pleased to highlight a recently launched newsletter by The Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation (CSAVR) called “In Focus”. This quarterly publication will be framed around four focus areas supported by examples on how state VR agencies are meeting the charge. The January publication highlights innovative practices from the states of Alabama, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Oklahoma. The site also includes a link to subscribe to the newsletter.

REMINDER ANNOUNCEMENT: ETA is pleased to highlight a February 12-13, 2019 conference led by the Employment Policy and Measurement Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (EPM-RRTC). Registration is FREE. The annual EPM-RRTC State of the Science and Annual Disability Statistics Compendium offers both in-person or online participation options. January is National Mentoring Month to help promote youth mentoring in the United States. To focus on serving the disability population, specialized resources have been compiled by ETA to increase awareness of its impact and the different technical assistance tools available to help bridge the mentoring gap. January is National Braille Literacy Month. It is estimated that 700,000 Americans younger than 21 are blind or have serious vision problems, even when wearing glasses. Braille uses a code of up to six dots to facilitate reading and writing. The word “Braille” stems from Louis Braille who became blind from an accident at the age of three. ETA compiled Workplace Resources for the Blind on WorkforceGPS to help increase awareness on how we can accommodate individuals with vision loss.

The Workforce Innovation Technical Assistance Center (WINTAC) announced the creation of a checklist to guide State VR Agencies on system alignment and integration with WIOA core and required partners. The WINTAC is funded by a cooperative agreement from the Department of Education's Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA).

On November 11th, the nation celebrates Veterans Day. For too many of our veterans returning from war, they suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD causes significant distress or impairment in the individual’s interactions and capacity to work. ETA compiled workplace resources to increase awareness about PTSD to help increase awareness to support our veterans and others with this disability.
