The ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) was signed into law on September 25, 2008. The amended law was intended to clarify the scope of the definition of disability under the ADA and took effect on January 1, 2009.  Today, an individual with a disability is a person who has a physical or mental impairment that limits one or more major life activities, has a record of such an impairment, or is regarded as having such an impairment.
